The 1st Job November 13, 2013

Wednesday was my first time meeting with Mr. Jose Quintero. We met at a local Starbucks coffee store and discussed in further detail about the senior capstone project and what we were expecting to learn from shadowing him and having him show us the engineering field. First, we arrived simultaneously to Starbucks and found a table and he treated me and another student/peer to some lemonade. We then sat down and talked about how we want to gain further in-detail knowledge on mechanical engineering and if it could be a possible career we would pursue in college. My mentor gave us a brief on what exactly an engineer is and how you have to carry out the job. I also learned about a variety of different engineering positions for example, there is also soil engineering, environmentalist engineering and others. All different categories of engineering almost always work together for a single project or construction. I was a bit shy to ask questions and keep a conversation with my mentor, but after awhile I was able to talk more and more to him. Next meeting with my mentor I think my nervousness and shyness will be almost, if not completely, gone. He let us have a couple of mechanical engineering brochures and magazines and gave us a brief explanation on how engineering uses a lot of physics and math. My next task will be to accompany him into his office and experience an ordinary working day once his boss gives him approval.

First Thoughts About Possible Topics

A possible career I am very interested in is business and the marketing field. Also, I am interested in pursuing engineering. Whether it's electrical or mechanical engineering, one of those two. Thirdly, I am also quite interested psychology and/or counseling. Some possible courses of college that I could continue studying upon could be history or any different branch of history. I could also study a video art/cinematography class once in high school. Lastly, I may also be able to take a class on human behaviors and/or sports psychology or forensics psychology.
